Language, please
Only 1,019 days to go...
“Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly.” ~Spencer W. Kimball
Did you see our Felon-in-Chief’s Easter message:
Nice language.
By comparison:
2022: As we reflect today on Christ’s Resurrection, we are reminded that with faith, hope, and love — even death can be defeated... From our family to yours, we wish you hope, health, joy, and the peace of God. (Joe Biden)
2015: We renew our commitment to live as He commanded: to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. (Barak Obama)
2007: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event of the Christian faith... [it] is a chance for people everywhere to gather with family and friends to celebrate the power of love conquering death. (George W. Bush)
George H.W. Bush messages focused heavily on family, faith, and the tradition of the Easter holiday, often connecting it to national values, while Bill Clinton’s messages emphasized spiritual renewal, hope, and community service.
When I read our current president’s message, I just shook my head in disgust. How has our nation sunk so low as to having such a tacky, unfeeling, neanderthal representing us in the world? When did foul language become the norm rather than the exception?
What continues to baffle me is how so-called Christians can continue to support this man, when he desecrates this holiest of Christian holidays with that kind of message.
“If President Trump were a third-grade Sunday school teacher in our church, that might be a problem, but he’s not a third-grade Sunday school teacher,” Jeffress said. “He’s the president of the United States…”
I disagree. In my opinion, Jeffress has it backwards. Sunday School teachers should not necessarily have the same high standards as our President. I expect — at a minimum — decency from the person who has been elected to lead this country. Is that asking too much?
Sad. Sad. Sad.

Spare Me the F’in Pearl Clutching
The only thing more insufferable than Trump’s profane social media post was the media reaction to it. Say it with me, folks: “THIS. IS. WHO. HE. IS.” Trump has been doing this for a decade. It was almost 11 years ago, to the day, when Trump announced his first bid for the presidency and trashed Mexican immigrants as “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists.” A month later, he trashed Senator John McCain, a Vietnam veteran who spent more than five years at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.”
…The truth is that the least profane aspect of Trump’s blight on our politics are his vulgarities. You may have missed it this weekend. But Trump also “re-truthed” (reposted) an Islamophobic attack on Muslim-Americans shopping at the Mall of America in Minnesota. Where were the pearl-clutchers on this post? You won’t find it. Why? Because it is safer to cover Trump’s rants than his racism. Despite the mountain of evidence, all pointing to the fact that Trump is a racist, the press still largely shies away from the subject.
A more relevant storyline is that the U.S. now has a commander-in-chief who is openly and repeatedly threatening to carry out war crimes to force the Iranian government to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day. And Bridge Day, all wrapped in one,” Trump also said in his post.
Experts maintain that these sorts of attacks on Iran’s civilian infrastructure would amount to war crimes. The more relevant discussion for the press to have, at this point, is about whether Trump’s unhinged tirades point to the likelihood that the president no longer has the mental capacity to carry out the duties of the office.
Letters from an American - April 6, 2026
Today was another surreal day in the second Trump administration….
And then he launched into a speech about Iran and wars and bombing and rescues. The Easter Bunny’s blank eyes seemed first shocked and then desperate. It was a scene out of a surreal movie: the president of the United States describing a war next to a giant rabbit with big, vacant, eyes. Charlotte Clymer of Charlotte’s Web Thoughts wrote: “Every day, I think: there’s no possible way it can get dumber and more embarrassing. And then Trump does something like this. And yes, this is real. It is all too real.”
While the children were rolling their eggs along the ground with spoons, Trump spoke to reporters, telling them about Iran, “If it were up to me, I’d like to keep the oil. I just don’t think the people of the United States would really understand.” He suggested that attacking Iran’s infrastructure wouldn’t be a war crime because “they killed 45,000 people in the last month. More than that. It could be as much as sixty. They killed protesters. They’re animals, and we have to stop them, and we can’t let them have a nuclear weapon.”
What Trump Is Doing to the English Language
As a critic and writing teacher, I’m fascinated by the tremendous power of verbs — language’s little fireballs — to shape how we understand the world. Verbs rule communication. Many linguists go so far as to see sentences as extensions of verbs with other accouterments.
I have observed a set of patterns in the way Mr. Trump speaks and writes over his two terms in office that reveal how the president uses verbs to evade responsibility and even proclaim a new form of leadership. Perhaps surprisingly, this is true even when Mr. Trump is proudly, if also prematurely, declaiming military successes.
What Happens When Trump Feels Cornered
The nadir (for now) was an Easter-morning Truth Social missive…
Trump’s Iran war has entered its seventh week, with no resolution in sight. The United States and Israel have gained control over Iran’s skies, striking wherever and whatever they wish. But Trump seems never to have seriously considered Iran’s obvious countermoves—despite the decades the intelligence community has spent war-gaming such scenarios. He’s now contending with an Iran-imposed global energy crisis to which he can offer no solution except blood-curdling threats….
The language is ferocious, reminiscent of Kaiser Wilhelm II when he called for German troops to act like King Attila’s merciless Huns in avenging the 1900 assassination of a German ambassador to China: “Should you encounter the enemy, he will be defeated! No quarter will be given! Prisoners will not be taken!” That speech did not gain Germany the respect craved by its psychologically fragile ruler. It alarmed the whole world—and earned German soldiers the derogatory nickname of “Huns” in the two world wars that followed.
Sleepless Trump, 79, Launches Unhinged Truth Social Tirade After Deranged Easter Post
President Donald Trump wrapped up his crazed Easter weekend posting spree with a bizarre video attacking Somali immigrants using a famously depressing 1980s pop song.
The 79-year-old, who is the oldest person yet to be elected U.S. president, has faced mounting concerns about his mental acuity and erratic behavior since his return to the White House last year. Those concerns took center stage over the holiday weekend as he fired off a foul-mouthed threat to commit potential war crimes in Iran.
Trump’s Profanity-Filled Easter Post Blows Up in His Face
If the president intended for his incendiary post to calm the markets, it has had the opposite effect, instead sending oil prices even higher on Sunday, CNN reported.
The cost of Brent crude rose 1.4 percent to $110.60 while U.S. crude rose 1.8 percent to $113.60, their highest in over three years.
Gas prices are at their highest since June 2022, having risen by over 38 percent since the war began to a national average of $4.11 on Sunday.
Trump’s Easter Post Condemned as ‘Utter Disdain for Religion’
The Interfaith Alliance, a coalition of religious leaders and advocates, condemned the message directly. “Trump’s profane and violent rant on Christianity’s holiest day while insulting Muslims around the world shows this administration’s utter disdain for religion,” the group said Sunday. “We condemn it while wishing all who celebrate Easter a joyful holiday.”
Down the rabbit hole: Trump offers dark Iran warnings after Easter bunny act
This disconnect from reality appears profoundly dangerous. It implies that Trump is not paying attention to civilian casualties in Iran – a subject he never mentions – nor aware of the consequences should he follow through on his threat to destroy bridges and power plants on Tuesday night.
‘Vile on every level’: Tucker Carlson rips Donald Trump over Easter Sunday ‘f-word’ post
“How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country?” Carlson said in a monologue on his podcast. “Who do you think you are?”
Hegseth Likens Easter Rescue of U.S. Airman to Resurrection of Jesus Christ
President Trump also asserted that God supports the American war against Iran “because God is good, and God wants to see people taken care of.”
